Chinese taxis can be terrifying.

If you visit China for a holiday you’ll be using a lot of taxis to get from place to place.

They’re numerous, they’re cheap, and they’re available whenever you need them.

But gosh, they can be terrifying. Chinese taxis drivers race to get you to your destination as if they are playing a game of Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto.

Number #1 – They will only stop at red lights if there are cars driving through the intersection.
Why bother waiting for that red light to change if there are no cars in the way. This is completely different to Australian drivers who will patiently wait at a red light even when they are the only car around.

Number #2 – They will overtake at any opportunity.
See that car driving straight towards you? We’ve still got 5 seconds to over take the car in front of us. It’ll be fine.

Number #3 – Driving in the middle of dual lanes.
Taxi drivers make the smart choice and drive right in the middle of dual lanes. This makes it easier to overtake cars on either side of the road.

Number #4 – Cutting in line at the red light.
When waiting for the traffic light to change there is a perfectly good lane right next to you. Drive up to the front of the opposite lane and then race ahead of the first car back into your lane before the oncoming traffic smashes into you. Just ignore the tourist in your car with the eyes coming out of his head.
