One Minute Film Festival
The One Minute Film Festival by Zonk vision was hosted as part of the You Are Here festival and was advertised as a micro film festival broken down into an hour of viewing.
As I arrived I was greeted with a warm and relaxed atmosphere, I came expecting short films ranging from the banal to the bizarre and I was not disappointed. The MC Danny a founding member of Zonk Vision, was a charismatic and relaxed host, giving background to each of the artists and the films they had submitted.
The variation of films was interesting with many having a light-hearted feel to them. From ‘Johnny Bastard’ the TV-thieving musician to a man slapping a watermelon replayed on loop, the one minute film festival was a great way to showcase the talent and creativity of local film artists.
Luke McGrath’s aforementioned ‘Johhny Bastard’ was a bizarre tale about how relations with a musician lead to his TV being stolen, delivered simply through the use of captions and select shots of the film maker.
Psychedelic films were a popular and well-executed theme with Kat Martins trance inducing kaleidoscopic shapes being the stand out in this category following on from what can only be described as ‘Internet Psychosis’ by Kate Geck.
The event had two modes of delivery starting off with a wide screen surrounded by couches in a traditional set up, the night then shifted into a relaxed movies at a friend’s house end the night.
