AFL early season review: Part 3

Based on the pre season and the first three rounds of the AFL season here is the first inclusion of three part series  reviewing the AFL season to date, to determine what direction your club is heading in for the 2015 season.

Part One

Adelaide:

They have been the biggest movers for 2015 so far they currently sit on top of the AFL ladder with three wins including a mauling of north Melbourne in round one. They have played attacking, bold and exciting football under new coach Phil Walsh. Most people are aware of the fire power they possess but they have not shown consistent top 6 football since 2012.  The challenge now is sustaining the roaring start and producing similar results against other top six sides.

Grade after round three: A

Essendon:

It is quite astonishing to think what these players have been through in the past three years. Nobody knew what to expect from the Bombers preseason with the players only finding out they were free to play three days before the season started. Remarkably the Bombers have been one of the best performers in the season’s opening three rounds.  They were devastatingly close to holding off a fast finishing Swans outfit in round one and then backed that up with a miraculous victory over premiership favourites Hawthorn in round two.

Grade after round three: A+

Fremantle:

Did all of Australia forget about the boys from the West? The 2013 grand finalists had fallen off many football followers radar after a disappointing 2014 season. The Dockers have certainly put their name right back into premiership contention with three clinical displays to begin the 2015 AFL season. They bring the heat like nobody else, good luck to any team that travelling to Perth to face Ross Lyons men.

Grade after round three: A

Hawthorn:

The Hawks look increasingly likely to take home a third straight premiership. They were clinical in round one against Geelong with performance which sent shivers down the spine of every coach in the league.  Suffered a minor hiccup against Essendon in round two but bounced back emphatically to demolish the Bulldogs in Tasmania on Sunday. It is very hard to find any weaknesses across the side, it will take a very very good team to stop the Hawks winning their third consecutive flag.

Grade after round three: A

Sydney:

The Swans were written off by many this season after a grand final from hell in 2014. However they have proved a lot of doubters wrong so far to be three wins and zero loses thus far. There most dominant display came in round two when they took Port Adelaide to the cleaners in a performance which even had the 50,000 strong Port Adelaide crowd in shock. The Swans face a huge test this weekend when they travel west to face fellow premiership fancy Fremantle.

Grade after round three: A
