Ever wondered what it would sound like if the show Seinfeld decided put themselves into a hip-hop project. Then look no further as Wale has done that for you in his new studio album The Album About Nothing.

With his fourth studio album, the Maybach Music rapper derives many concepts and titles from the series once called the ‘Show About Nothing’ as well as collaborating with the co-creator Jerry Seinfeld.

The fascination of the hit 90s’ NBC series by Wale is nothing new as this fourth studio album resembles his old music ways and a nod to his pre-stardom mixtape ‘The Mixtape About Nothing’ in 2008 and the sequel More About Nothing.

Just like his previous efforts, the album contains excerpts from the TV series however what makes this better is the exclusive skit cameos by Jerry Seinfeld himself that occur right from the beginning to the very end.

During production Wale promised fans that this release would be much more personal and that idea was clearly evident as he replaced the club filled tracks with songs with more lyrical substance.

The songs are mostly instrument heavy and because of that, the project’s music mostly consists of a feel-good and infectious sound in which allows Wale to reflect and rap his lessons in life while also establishing a connection with his listeners.

The main themes that you can hear throughout the album is relationships, life’s regrets and lessons. This is evident in the first song off the album ‘The Helium Balloon’ in which narrates Wale’s strive for ultimate success even while feeling constrained in other parts of his life.

What also helps Wale’s message is the limited features he has on the album. Aside from Seinfeld, the set includes appearances by J. Cole (‘The Pessimist’), SZA (‘The Need to Know’), Jeremih (‘The Body’) and Usher (‘The Matrimony’). With these, it was clear Wale thought out his features and put the best person for the sound while also not being overpowered on the track.

Ultimately, while there would be concerns before listening that this could be sales gimmick, upon listening it is clear that this is anything but. There is a clear collaboration between Wale and Jerry Seinfeld with the comedic wits of the series creator allowing the tracks to continuously flow which helps make the album more cohesive and complete

This should please both Seinfeld and hip-hop fans alike. Definitely worth a listen.
