CBAA Radio Survey

The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA) has been conducting research through online surveys in order to better understand the frequency of listeners, their motivations for tuning in, as well as key times for listening. The survey was conducted by McNair Igenuity Research, which is an Australian social research organisation.

The results from the survey will be used in order to gain feedback on community radio broadcasting. This feedback will be used to better serve community needs and therefore boost the profile of community radio.

The survey is available in all states and territories in Australia. The results of the 2012 and 2014 survey results have been released on their website.

The results from last year showed that 21% of the ACTs population listens to community radio. This figure has almost doubled since 2012 when the results showed that only 11% of the population listened to community radio.

Radio Survey 1

The results from the survey last year for commercial radio showed some growth but not as much as community radio. The 2014 surveys had more people engage in the surveys, which resulted in exponential growth.

Radio Survey 2

Sovereign Presenter at Community Station 2XX FM, Dylan Anderson described his thoughts on the community radio growth “I believe it will grow at the same rate, if there aren’t massive budget cuts”.
