It is National Volunteer Week this week and the Salvation Army are calling for people to join them on May 30th and 31st for the Red Shield Door Knock Appeal.

The doorknock has been a huge success in previous years and raised $8.5 million in 2014. It is the largest contributor to the Salvation Army’s year-long fundraiser the Red Shield Appeal.

The doorknock is held on the last weekend of May each year and the money raised assists those who are disadvantaged and marginalised in the community.

The Salvation Army’s fundraising target for the Red Shield Appeal is $74 million. The ambitious target is $33.4 million above what was raised last year.

Looking at previous years it is unlikely they will reach their target, but a substantial amount will still be raised.
