Hit104.7’s Skyfire 2016

As the grass around Lake Burley Griffin quickly disappears beneath picnic rugs, baskets, camp chairs and portable radios, one of the biggest events in Canberra’s calendar begins to unfold. Skyfire hosted by Hit104.7 is a much loved event and 2016 was filled with local dance performers, entertaining acts and national and international bands including Thirsty Merc.

“I am just expecting utter mayhem and fun. I can’t wait to see the turnout of people and the fireworks, I’ve been told they rival Sydney’s New Years Eve ones” said Hit104.7’s morning announcer, Courtenay Davies.

The fireworks are the main attraction at Skyfire with custom made fireworks, lighting up the sky in sync with current track hits.

“The highlight of the night is definitely the fireworks. Working with Fortunato Foti, this year we will have even more fireworks than in previous years. There are platforms stretching over half a kilometre across the basin” said Canberra FM Campaign Coordinator, Craig Ebeling.

Hundred Handed, a band from the U.S. were the first to perform and opened the show for Thirsty Merc who closed with “In The Summertime”, resulting in the crowd erupting.

“It takes a full 12 months to organise the event each year. Once Hit104.7’s Skyfire 2016 is over, we start planning for 2017 on the Monday. Some things are already under way for 2017” said Ebeling.
