  1. SPACE Kitchen – Woden

Presentation: Everything made at SPACE Kitchen is an out of this world, work of art. Each dish perfectly balances a burst of colour, a mix of textures, and amazing attention to detail. Pictures for Instagram are almost mandatory!

Value for money: $6.90 to $22.90. SPACE Kitchen is one of the cheaper options our top five, so you won’t be stretching your lunch money to get a pretty picture.

Taste: Some of the ingredients used by SPACE Kitchen add to the dish’s visual appeal but don’t translate to additional flavour. As far as photos go however, the elaborate presentation compensates for the lacking taste.

2. The Cupping Room – Canberra City

Presentation: Every dish at The Cupping Room holds a delightful element of rustic beauty. Each ingredient is mindfully placed, in a manner that just cries out to be admired on Instagram. Eating at The Cupping Room is like visiting an edible art gallery.

Value for money: $8 to $25. The food at this Canberra favourite is on the pricier side, but the cooking techniques result in a sophisticated dish. The price is definitely justified.

Taste: The dishes at The Cupping Room can taste anywhere from average to mind-blowingly amazing. While this inconsistency is at odds with the always photo-ready presentation, when it’s good… it’s REALLY GOOD.

3. Penny University – Kingston

Presentation: The food at Penny University is plated in a delightfully unstructured manner. Ingredients are displayed on the plate in a perfectly Instagrammable manner, that calls to mind work of artist Jackson Pollock (pop across to the NGA after lunch to get your fill of artistic inspiration). The dishes have vibrant pops of colour and will add nice warm tones to your Instagram.

Value for money: $8.50 to $27. A strong combination of cooking technique and tasty ingredients make the dishes at Penny University somewhat worth the price.

Taste: Lunch at Penny University is a fusion of Western brunch food and Asian-inspired cuisine. The food is consistently delicious and is made even better by the unexpected but inspired combination of  flavours. Your lunch will be a true journey for the taste buds.

4. ONA Manuka – Manuka

Presentation: Looking for a lunch thats healthy, and the perfect update to your Instagram profile? Almost every dish at ONA‘s Manuka café contains a bright pop of colour, as they incorporate lots of fruit and vegetables. ONA‘s lunch menu features more wholesome classics than some of the other spots on this list, so it’s a great way to mix up your posting style.

Value for money: $8 to $28. You can thank the delicious fresh ingredients used in the dishes at ONA for the slightly heftier price tag. This Manuka hotspot is perfect for those who are willing to pay a little more to keep their eating clean, even when they’re out and about.

Taste: Despite the snap-worthy presentation of the food at ONA, when it comes to taste, expect standard café fare. Everything is deliciously enjoyable, but the unique ingredients don’t quite fulfil expectations or create unique flavours.

5. Local Press Cafe – Kingston Foreshore

Presentation: Local Press Cafe promises Canberra Instagrammers “healthy, honest wholefood” dishes. Even better, they actually deliver on that promise with a colourful collection of casual plant-based meals, juices, and smoothies. The presentation of the food reflects the decor of the café – think exposed brick walls, dried flowers, and natural wood features. Your lunch photos from the Local Press Cafe will have a great relaxed vibe.

Value for money: $8 to $25. Local Press Cafe is one of the cheaper lunch options on our list but the portion sizes hit the mark. The price range is great for the fresh ingredients, and sophisticated food.

Taste: Eating at Local Press Cafe allows Canberra café goers to feel like they’re eating produce straight from the garden or farm, and it’s reflected in the great tasting food. The ingredients are fresh and light – yum!
