UC journalism students step into the real world

The National Press Club was at maximum capacity when a group of UC Journalism students took the opportunity to mix with their professional colleagues. The occasion, a speech by Federal Health Minister Nicola Roxon at the National Press Club this month (13 August 2008), gave two students the chance to put a question to Ms Roxon on live television.

Lovely Lily needs no gilding – only wheels

Three-year-old Lily Sharrock’s smile melts your heart. She loves making people laugh, and giggling at silly things. She loves jokes and make-believe, and encourages her older sister to tell stories with fancy dress, make cubbies, or pretend the blanket is a monster and fight it. But Lily is different from her little peers at the University of Canberra’s Kirinari childcare centre – she has a form of cerebral palsy called quadriplegic dystonia, meaning her limbs and spine have low muscle tone, and she will never walk without an aide.

UC Journalism students had a taste of real journalism when they visited the National Press Club yesterday (6 August 2008). After enjoying a lunch of salmon and wine, the students heard an address from the CEO of Engineers Australia, Peter Taylor.

UC a testing ground for next sport stars

The University of Canberra has, in collaboration with the Australian Sports Commission (ASC), become a testing centre that will help fast-track talented athletes from around Australia into selected Olympic Games and World Championship sports.

The site is designed, compiled and maintained by Crispin Hull, head of print journalism. The convenor of journalism at UC is Simon Brady. Broadcast lecturers are: Jennifer Kitchener and Julie Posetti.
