By EWAN GILBERT
A complicated flow of preferences could see the sitting member for Infrastructure, Anthony Albanese lose his inner Sydney seat of Grayndler to the Greens.

Despite streaking ahead with 47 percent of the vote with nearly three quarters counted, Mr Albanese could be in trouble with the third placed Liberals set to give their prefences to the 2nd placed Greens candidate, Sam Byrne.

Taken now the Greens would win the seat by slightly more than 1,500 votes.

With 25% of votes yet to come Mr Albanese can only hope to see a significant slowing in Labors current swing in the seat of -8.5 percent.

By GREG CHAMBERLAIN
VETERAN political analyst Malcolm Mackerras predicts a Coalition victory and says he is not surpised that there has been a large swing against Labor.

“I think that it’s slightly more likely that there’ll be a Coalition government than a Labor government,” Mr Mackerras said.

Mr Mackerras believes voter anger towards the New South Wales and Queensland Governments has contributed to the swing against Labor.

“In NSW there’s a dreadful Labor state Government and the state Labor Government is being punished in the federal election before they punish it in the state election,” he said.

“Queenslanders seem to have the idea that, ‘we’ll vote the Labor Government in provided there’s a Queensland Prime Minister. We wanted to kick that man out but these bastards have done it for us. We’ll teach them a lesson and we will punish the Labor party for taking away from us our right to kick Kevin Rudd out.’

“So when you add all that up you find that the Labor Government can only survive by making gains in Victoria and South Australia, and the do seem to be making gains there.”

By KIA HANDLEY
The seat of Jagajaga in Victoria has been won by the Australian Labor Part by Jenny Macklin.

Carly Burgess is an ALP supporter and is at the celebrations in the electorate of Jagajaga were she said the current mood is a lot more relaxed now then it was earlier in the eveing.

“Everyone is really happy,” she said, “we have had a very rough evening but it is nice to know the result and to have it in our favour.”

Labor won two seats from the Coalition in Victoria: McEwen and La Trobe.

However, as the votes for other Victorian seats continue to be counted the predictions are that Labor will not hold on to the state of Victoria.

Jessyka Norsworthy has managed to land just over 2% or nearly 1,500 votes in the seat of Calare, despite having refused all media interviews and never having even setting foot in the electorate.

The 18 year old, mother of one is a resident of the NSW south coast town of Nowra and stood for election as part of Fred Niles Christian Democratic Party in the western NSW seat.

Gaining the number one spot on the ballot paper she gained some notoriaty as any attempts to contact her would only get as far as her mother, who then denied all media requests.

The votes equal to a swing of nearly 2% and in a closer fought seat it’s a sign that the place at number one on the ballot paper is still a worthy posting.

The seat of Robertson lives up to its knife-edge reputation. The seat was the most marginal NSW seat at the 2007 election. WIth nearly 75% of the vote there now Labor is trailing the Liberals by less than 1200 votes.

With the Greens only managing to scrape up a tiny 9% of the vote even a deal on preferences could still see Labor in trouble.

Labor is facing an uphill battle to retain the key battleground seat of Lindsay in western Sydney.

By ALEX McCONACHIE
Labor is facing an uphill battle to retain the key battleground seat of Lindsay in western Sydney.

Incumbent candidate David Bradbury has suffered a 6 per cent swing against him to find himself in danger of losing the seat to Liberal candidate Fiona Scott.

With 72 per cent of the vote counted, Labor is requiring preferences from the Greens in order to just get over the line, with a projected two candidate vote of 50.28 per cent.

Lindsay encompasses the state electorate of Penrith, where Labor suffered an embarassing defeat in a by-election recently.

While not as notorious as Eden-Monaro, Lindsay has been won by the party who has won government in every election since it was established in 1984.
