1. The University of Canberra Being a student’s gets you access to the internet for free while you do pay for it through fees, no money needs to change hands while you are using it. There are many quiet areas around campus to complete quiet study or areas like the refectory and cafes if you’re completing a group assignment or like a bit of background noise.  Available 24/7.

2. McDonald’s Belconnen On Emu bank about 1km walk from the university, Maccas offers free Wi-Fi. While the connection can get a bit slow when there are a lot people around but if you are there mid-afternoon it is quiet in the store with only a few other people around. The only problem with only having a few other people around is that you may feel pressured to buy something in order to use the service, but if you are in for a big study session chances are you will buy something anyway. Available 24/7.

3. Westfield Belconnen Only 1.9km from the University but if you aren’t keen to walk there is the option of catching a bus. The food court and the bus station offer free Wi-Fi. While it is quite noisy at times in the mall there is an array of food and refreshments to keep you satisfied while you complete your assignments. Being a shopping centre there is no pressure to buy something in order to use this service. Available when the centre is open in food court while 24/7 access available in bus interchange.

4. Belconnen Library 2.1km, quiet areas plus helpful library staff and books available for use. There are power points available to connect your laptop. Free if….

5. Belconnen Labor Club 1.8km from the university, costs $2 to enter the club if you are not a member. Signal is good when there aren’t too many people connected; there is also food, snacks, coffee and meals available. There is a lounge area but not too much room to spread your work out but if you’re just working on your laptop you will be fine. If you don’t mind the sound of pokies, coffee being made, people talking or the noise of a kitchen then this place will suit you really well.

The best spots for study or doing assignments are at University or at the Belconnen library, there are quiet areas where you can have  enough room

to spread out any work you have printed out but the uni is a little better as there are loads of cafes around for the quick coffee (or Chai Latte) fix. Although some areas can be a little loud at times it has a really good connection and other students are staff are readily available to help with work. Westfield, the Labor club and McDonald’s are all good areas to hang around, watch Youtube clips and read memes but not the best place to get hard assignments done or study. These are more the places to relax and unwind rather than do uni work.
