Eccentricity As Art

Sienta La Cabeza
The worldwide act ‘Sienta la Cabeza’ or ‘hairstyle the head’ performed its Australian debut at Canberra’s Enlightenment festival.

Hairdresser by trade, Fafa Franco and actress Tatiana Silveria, entertain through the sculpture of hair to the musical influences of Nick Prescott.

The live creation of the makeup and hairstyles takes roughly 20minutes, depending on the hair type. Ms Franco creates her styles in the moment, drawing from a number of different inspirations.

“It depends on the festival, the light, the hair. The inspiration can be from the face of the participant or the place we are”, says Ms Franco.

The trio perform at festivals all around the world bringing a spice of Barcelonan culture and art that can normally only be experienced on the streets of Spain.

Mr Prescott plays a range of music that is inspired from various cultures to enrich the audience’s reception of the hairstyles.

“The people that are watching experience things in a different way, music changes the atmosphere and enhances what they are looking at”, says Mr Prescott.

The outrageous costumes and eccentric hair and makeup is an art in itself that drew and captivated the crowds from every angle of the festival.

“The [costumes] are designed by us, we have someone that makes them for us and we wear different ones for different festivals”, said Mr Prescott.

Complements and attributions were flown towards the artist’s, with audience members raving about the interactivity of the performance with adults and children.

Becky Patterson, a member of the audience said “people are able to go up on to the stage and be guided to expand themselves, it is like they can change their identity for a night.”

If you missed this free event or eager to revisit the charisma of Spain, the trio are performing again at 2pm at the Enlightenment festival on Tuesday.
