Les Miserables by the Canberra Philharmonic Society

Les Miserables is back in the nations capital with a ‘bang’, thanks to the ever astonishing Canberra Philharmonic Society’s most recent production of the famous musical.

The epic story based on the novel by Victor Hugo brings to the stage a struggle of love, loss and sacrifice in a musical that is sure to get eyes watering.

Erindale Theatre is the venue of this latest production and impresses with good comfy seats, a strong flexible stage facility and amazing light and special affects.

Once the musical gets underway one must feel they are watching a professional production rather than an amateur with a strong vocal presence which sends shivers down your spine.

Dave Smith is eloquent while vocally amazing as the passionate Jean Valjean while Adrian Flor delivers a strong and admirable performance as Inspector Javert.

The role of Marius is portrayed beautifully by Mat Chardon O’Dea with amazing vocals and a strong stage presence, that allows him to fit the role perfectly.

While Laura Dawson captures the essence of the role of Cosette with pure class and chilling vocals.

The rest of cast is as strong as any Les Mis cast from the past with more breathtaking performances by Kelly Roberts as Fantine, Vanessa de Jager as Eponine and Grant Pegg as Enjolras.

Overall the performance deserved every bit of it’s standing ovation with small microphone and light glitches quickly and happily forgotten.
