Top 10 SoundCloud Finds of the Week

By Bethany Manteit

I’ve scoured the ever-expanding online music community for the week’s best offerings from Australia’s finest budding producers. This week served up a mixed bag of musical delights – from electro to psytrance to glitch.

Uberjak’d – I Could Be the One (Avicii vs Nicky Romero)
This bootleg of the popular Avicii and Nicky Romero track delivers a crunchy sound and thumping bassline. Uberjak’d loops the original track’s vocals to create a 90’s house sound to lose yourself in, before plummeting into some bass-heavy sounds – watch out for the mind-blowing drop at 2:51. With over 10,000 followers on SoundCloud, an appearance at Creamfields festival and the support of fellow producer/DJ Laidback Luke, Uberjak’d is one to watch.

Jebu – Are U Ready?
Jebu has chucked his track up on SoundCloud for our listening pleasure before Beatport and iTunes have a chance to get their hands on it. This track bounces the listener back and forth between tantalising build ups and heavy drops which do not disappoint. Turn this one up LOUD!

Timmy Trumpet – Snapback (Will Sparks remix)
Timmy Trumpet is no stranger to dropping crowd pleasing tracks either in clubs or on the festival circuit. The intro of ‘Snapback’ is filled with percussion and Timmy Trumpet’s hallmark, er, trumpets. The Will Sparks remix does not disappoint, as you would expect following the success of his other tracks ‘Ah Yeah!’ and ‘Chemical Energy’. After the one minute intro the bass kicks in with force, which is balanced out nicely with trumpets and synths later on.

Prolifix – Here to Stay (Zomboy ft. Lady Chann)
This track is an interesting combination of styles. It sets a dark and almost ominous mood, as can be expected from some dubstep, but uses some alluring reggae style vocals. The original (remixed by countless SoundClouders in the short time it has been released, thanks to Beatport’s remix contest) is distinctly more uptempo, reminiscent of Skrillex’s sound, but this remix has a brooding vibe to it – until excitement builds briefly around the 3 minute mark. Worth a listen for fans of Nero’s remixes of Booty Luv’s ‘Say It’ and Boy Crisis’ ‘Dressed to Digress’.

Mr Bill & Fine Cut Bodies – Januko
This track, a collaboration with Hungarian producer Fine Cut Bodies, has been classified under IDM – which stands for Intelligent Dance Music, a subgenre of experimental electronica. ‘Januko’’s sound is glitchy, dreamy, verging on wacky with sounds that you might otherwise insist don’t belong together. In certain parts this track sounds like electronic elevator music (if there were such a thing), in other parts familiar glitch noises can be heard. You’ll have to hear it to believe it. If this Aussie producer’s online following is anything to go by, many are keen to see where these experiments will take him next. Mr Bill has promised his fans a new track featuring other new artists every week!

Ryanosaurus Music – Yugen
This week Ryanosaurus, a producer who focuses

levitra professional

his talents mainly on psytrance and glitch, shows us what we can expect from his upcoming album Yugen. Full of vocals, glitchy sounds, and even glimpses of house; but always with the thumping bass line which goes hand-in-hand with psytrance tracks. There are plenty of distorted, echoing vocals that make you feel as though you’re miles away from the music; while the bass line gives you a sense of being ever so close to the action. This style of music doesn’t offer many highs or lows, but rather a constant stream of engaging sounds. You’ll enjoy this album if you liked Booka Shade’s 2010 album More!

Opiuo – Benzie Box (Danger Doom)
This one’s a remix of a Danger Doom track with very funky vocals and some piano and rap thrown in for good measure. Another bass-driven track, like a heavier version of Flume’s hip hop tunes as seen on his self-titled EP. Even better, Opiuo has been known to tear it up at clubs in Canberra, playing to sweaty, smoky, dark rooms packed full of fans at Clubhouse and Trinity Bar.

Nick Forrest – How We Feel
Forrest has uploaded an unfinished track to whet our appetites. Chilled, jazzy sounds and looped vocals. A dreamy, minimal tune to fall in love with.

Micah Black – Lick Me Higher Booty (VIP edit)
A second rework of his unusual mashup of house sensation ‘You Take Me Higher’ by Rogerseventytwo and Missy Elliott’s ‘Lick Shots’. Micah Black is sought after by both local and international venues, having been consistently voted as a top Perth DJ. He identifies this track as “nu beat breaks”.

Philly Blunt – Real as Me
Not one to brag, the Perth-based DJ (also a regular collaborator with the aforementioned Micah Black) confesses to having “whipped [the track] up on the flight to Miami”. Mixing vocals from both hip hop and foreign songs, over Botnek’s ‘The Sound’, makes for a fun and energetic compilation.
