Top 5 Music Blogs

Music, especially good music can be very hard to find. I don’t know about you, but a world without Justin Bieber is a world I could definitely live in….

But while some people may have urge to find new and exciting tunes, they may not know where to start. Well, I’m here to help.

Here is my list of the Top 5 Music blogs (in no particular order)

1. FVCKelite

Don’t let the name fool you, this blog means some serious business if you love your alternative electronic/hip-hop/rap and general street culture. It’s not known who runs the blog, but its main target demographic seems to be US/European audiences. A variety of tunes which have been categorised into different sections along with a very aesthetically pleasing blog layout makes FVCKelite an excellent choice to start your new iPod off. Based through Tumblr, with around 265 ‘followers’ (as of Sunday, April 7), FVCKelite isn’t as professional as some of the other blogs that will be mentioned although it has started to gain a following and has recently been added to Tumblr Spotlight alongside music heavyweights like Pitchfork and Fader.

2. Earmilk

Earmilk is big. You are destined to find whatever it is you’re looking for after going through this site. The beauty of this site is the vast amount of different sections available for different types of music; ‘Wobble Wednesdays’ for your dubstep fix, ‘Weekend Selector’ for those late night jams, ‘Mashup Mondays’ for, well, mashups and ‘The Club’ to get your electro hit. These guys have you covered, and the website layout is fantastic as well. Earmilk is very popular with over 70 000 ‘likes’ on Facebook and is a great destination for music.

3. Burning Ear

Definitely more for the indie heads, ‘The Burning Ear’ has been a staple of my music diet for quite some time. Based more around indie/alternative/chillwave style hits with a few rock jams placed in. There is no mainstream here, call it hipster if you want, but your ipod is going to love you for grabbing tunes from this gem. It’s constantly updated and has a very user-friendly interface, ‘The Burning Ear’ also has sections for reviews, music videos, merchandise and new bands (just in case you do want to get your hipster on). It only has 13 000  ‘likes’ on Facebook but with a huge following on exFM and advertisements associated with clothing giant Karmaloop ‘The burning Ear’ isn’t just another pretty face when it comes to music blogs.

4.Chubby Beavers

If you love House/Electro/Dub you will be bookmarking Chubby Beavers straight away. I love the old school look of the website, it’s almost like it hasn’t been touched since its inception. However, where CB may lack on aesthetics it more than makes up for in quality of music. Run by (on what I believe to be) two DJs ar the heart of the music scene in America, CB has been spot on in terms of broadcasting new tunes, predicting the newest up and coming DJ’s and also promoting events. If the first thing you do when you wake up is chuck on Tiesto….you’ll want to visit this website.

5. MTHRFNKR

Along the same steez as ‘FVCKelite’, but MTHRFNKR been around for a lot longer. It is an alternative based blog mostly promoting post-alternative/electro/chillwave/trap/rap style music, essentially the up and coming artists in street culture. Easily the best looking out of all the blogs listed it is simple and useful with different sections to showcase new talent and new music.  MTHRFNKR has a big presence on social media, with nearly 10 000 and a bunch people more following on Tumblr. This is best served with a hint of FVCKelite to cover all bases of the more street based tunes and general “vibe out tracks”.

And there you have it, these may not tick all your boxes right away but once you start going to these sites on a daily basis there’ll be no turning back.
