Top 5 Rugby Players You Don't Know

There has been an injection of new talent into the Super Rugby season for 2013. Here are the Top 5 rugby players that you may not have heard of but by the end of the year you will know well.

  1.  Jordan Smiler The former New Zealand and Australian sevens rep has spent the past few weeks dominating in club rugby for local Canberra first grade side Easts. The Brumbies extended playing squad member is a tall, strong, fast and unexpectedly skilful flanker who seems to live for tackling.
  2. Ardie Savea Younger brother of All Blacks powerhouse Julian, Ardie is a fast and aggressive flanker who has some freakish skills. Ardie made his debut recently and showed glimpses of the skill that has many of those in the know tipping him for big things in the not too distant future.
  3. Jan Serfontein The former under 20’s player of the year helped South Africa to their first under 20 worlds Championship and is currently cutting up opposition defences in the centres for the Bulls. Serfontein is the sort of player that has many in South Africa actually wanting to play an expansive running style of game.
  4. Matt Lucas The diminutive halfback looks like one of the mini footy kids forgot to walk off at halftime and somehow found themself in a jersey yet his off the bench performances for the Waratahs have shown his snappy running game and accurate passing. The younger brother of Queensland Reds halfback Ben, Mat should be a mainstay for the ‘Tahs in the years to come.
  5. Tevita Kuridrani The rangy outside centre has ensured that the Brumbies backline is not short of pace and power this season. The Fijian powerhouse brings back memories of a younger Lote Tuqiri but quite possibly more skilful if that is even possible.
