The film follows the life of young American snowboarder Kevin Pearce, who was widely regarded as a gold medal hopeful for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games. However, on New Years Eve, less than 50 days before the start of the Games,Pearce took a massive fall while training that caused him severe head trauma and left in the hospital for almost six months, ending his snowboarding career.

The documentary follows his long recovery, and the constant fight he has with his friends and family about his wish to return to the sport that almost cost him his life.

The Crash Reel is definitely an eye opener to the effects of head trauma, as well as the challenges that face these athletes, as trying to come to terms with the fact that the thing they have loved doing for much of their life, can be taken away in an instant.

The documentary features two time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White, who grew up with Kevin, before the two had a falling out, becoming fierce rivals in the years leading up to the 2010 Vancouver Games.
