Friday Night Drinks at Old Parliament House

Friday Night Drinks at Old Parliament House is located within the Parliamentary Triangle. Over the past year, the venue has had a re-vamp with new editions of Giant Jenga, a Table Tennis table, giant beanbags, a new DJ every week and $5 house wines and beers. Friday Night Drinks at Old Parliament House is the perfect hotspot for an evening drink with friends to finish off the week.

“We’ve come a long way since Restaurant Associates took over the catering reins here at OPH… At our Friday Night Drinks, we have had an average attendance of around five to seven hundred guests per week during the warmer months of the year,” said Key Account and Venue Manager for Restaurant Associates at Old Parliament House, Sean Buttrose.

Being in a central location within one of the most historic and important buildings in Australia, Friday Night Drinks is such a great spot to have a nibble and a beverage. The delicious food options range from pulled beef and pork sliders, a charcuterie board, marinated olives, Polish sausages and chip bowls which are all reasonably priced around the $10 mark. They are open from 4pm till around 9pm in the warmer months of the year and to get there, you walk through the new and improved Hoi Polloi restaurant and into The House of Representatives courtyard.

“Our new restaurant, Hoi Polloi, has given us great opportunity to cross promote Friday Night Drinks and has also allowed the extension of the fantastic Canberra Region wines available through the restaurant to also be available through Friday Night Drinks,” said Buttrose.

Hoi Polloi, meaning the common people, is a revamped restaurant in the same place where the public and the media would gather to eat and drink while parliament were seating in Old Parliament House. It now has heritage chairs and furniture that date back to the 1920’s, new carpet and a whole new bar for the public to enjoy.

“Stay tuned to the OPH website for the many upcoming special events during winter… The launch of the 2016 Friday Night Drinks series will be on 16th September 2016. We can’t wait to see everyone back here again for another year of fun”.
