Legend of Zelda Breath of The Wild Review

I started playing Breath of the Wild with a single thought in my head, “How on earth is anyone meant to finish this?”

The game is huge, daunting even, but I tried my best to bring you this review.

Breath of The Wild takes place 100 years after a disaster destroys most of the kingdom Hyrule. Our protagonist, Link, wakes up from a 100 slumber, only to have no memory of anything that had happened all those years ago. From there you set out to save the kingdom and retrieve your lost memories.

Breath of the Wild disregards the well-known Legend Of formula, adopting a free-roam approach. The game allows you to do anything in any order, and if that means a suicidal death charge straight to the main boss in your underwear (though highly discouraged), you are allowed to.

The game also emphasises exploration, with a huge world given to you and secrets to discover at every turn. Freedom is the main gift handed to the player, with  little handing holding and only a bit of direction given pointing you towards the ‘main’ goal.

However, as wonderful as the game is, it has its issues.

The game seems out to get you from the beginning, weapons break after a few swings and higher level enemies harass you from the start.

The world itself seems intent on killing you, with rain storms that prevent you from climbing cliffs, random temperature spikes that lead to death by exposure and frequent lightning storms that kill you if you’re wearing anything made of metal.

All in all, this a quality game with some glaring issues that keep it from being excellent. However, it is still a great experience filled with Nintendo’s signature charm that anyone can have fun with, newcomer and veteran alike.

Rating: 4.5/5
