The Lesser Know Act You Can't Miss At GTM

While the hype of this year’s Groovin the Moo lineup revolves around the likes of The Wombats, Violent Soho and Milky Chance, Canberra music fans shouldn’t let the headliners overshadow one act in particular.
Loyle Carner may not be creating the same buzz as his fellow GTM acts, but the 22-year-old from south London is beginning to make a name for himself, after releasing his debut album, Yesterday’s Gone, in January. The UK artist announced that he would be joining the bill for GTM, along with sideshows as part of his Yesterday’s G0ne global album tour.

The rapper provides a raw, less grimey take on British hip-hop that has become synonymous with some of the genre’s biggest artists like Skepta and Stormzy.
He describes his music as “honest, old school hip-hop” and that’s exactly what it is.
Yesterday’s Gone does an excellent job of providing an insight into deep issues like loneliness and depression while also expressing the importance of relationships with friends and family all to a cool, mellow beat.
Although not all of Loyle Carner’s set will fuel the adrenaline of the crowd as much as his other GTM counterparts, he does possess faster more upbeat songs that resemble typical hip-hop and will be sure to get the festival goers groovin’.
Tracks like Stars & Shards and NO CD should not be missed by any festival goers who are wanting to experience as many high energy bangers as possible come the 7th of May.
With over 500,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, an artist on the rise like Loyle Carner performing in Canberra shouldn’t be missed, as there’s a good chance that future visits to Australia won’t include the capital as a stopping point.
