Auto-Italia Canberra 2017
There were plenty of cars, bikes and scooters on show at the annual Auto-Italia event for 2017, held at the Old Parliament House on the 2nd of April.
Italian works of art with passion and pride from around the nation were on show as a large crowd attended the event on a perfect Autumn day in Canberra.
2017 was an extra special year for the Auto-Italia as it marked the 70th anniversary of the world-renowned automotive brand, Ferrari, who were also featured as the marque at this year’s event.
The event showcased more than just modern day sports cars. Motorbikes and scooters dating back to the 1970’s and 80’s were sitting pretty in the sun as an old Ducati Vigili Urbani, a bike that was ridden in the 70’s by Italian police, won the award for best bike of that era.
Lamborghinis and Maseratis were also there to rival the Ferraris for attention, as a Lamborghini Aventador SV Roadster engrossed many of the car enthusiasts.
However, Ferrari would eventually win the battle of interest in the
eyes of the Italian Ambassador, as a green 458 Speciale won the Embassy of Italy Ambassadors Choice award.
Tavis Aitchison was attending Auto-Italia for the first time and believes that the event was a great way to spend his Sunday afternoon.
“Today’s been fantastic, I have always been interested in Italian cars and to come see all of the best ones together in one place is pretty cool”, he said.
Although he wasn’t allowed to test drive any, Aitchison was able to spend some time in the driver’s seat of a Ferrari 488 GTB.
After the show, Aitchison insisted that he would return to the Auto-Italia in 2018 to see the new range of cars they have on display.
“I will definitely be back next year to see brands like Ferrari and Lamborghini continue to produce their amazing cars,” he said.
Auto-Italia has been providing Canberrans with the chance to experience the luxury and beauty of a wide range of Italian automobiles since 2006, and is an event well worth attending for all car lovers.
