Best Dumplings for your Dollars

When it comes to quality Asian cuisine in Canberra, we are spoilt for choice.

Whether you’re looking to please a large gathering, something cheap to eat, or a nice night of Dumpling and chill with that someone special, it’s hard to pass up on the delightful pockets of warm tastiness that’s offered at the various dumpling houses across Canberra.

With so many options at your fingertips, we hit the town to see the best on offer.

CBD Dumpling House – Civic

Located in the North Quarter of the Canberra Centre sits the biggest and best of the dumpling houses. As the night gets on you’ll notice a line forming down the street, so booking in advance is ideal. Inside it can get quite busy and sometimes feels as though you’re sharing a table with the strangers next to you.

However don’t let any of that deter you from trying out what’s on offer, the crowd is moved through rather quickly and laughter and conversation adds to the overall atmosphere of the venue.

As for the food you can choose all your Asian favorites plus more. Variety is not an issue here, as they’re catering to all types of dietary requirements and fussy eaters.

Prices average between $20-$30 per person. Bill splitting is not available.

Yat Bun Tong Dumpling House – Braddon

Located on Braddon’s Main Street (Lonsdale St.) it’s the smallest but offers the most character. The venue features a street facing kitchen and traditional décor. Given the size of the venue booking ahead is definitely recommended as wait times can be quite lengthy when busy. Within walking distance of the famed CBD dumpling house this small restaurant is definitely worth checking out.

As for the food you’ll find much the same on offer but served with its own little twist. If you’re looking for that added wow factor this is the place to go with presentation far ahead of the rest. Coupled with the décor and intimate setting it creates a great atmosphere.

Again here you’ll find something to satisfy even the pickiest eaters with prices ranging from $20-$30 per person. Bill splitting is not available.

Dickson Dumpling House – Dickson

Located in the heart of Dickson this restaurant fits perfectly into the China Town scene but is sure not to get lost in the crowd.

Catering to dining groups of all sizes this venue makes the best use of space available. Unlike the two other venues, even at the busiest of times, the tables are positioned in such a way that you never really notice you are sitting centimeters away from complete strangers.

The menu is quite extensive and caters to most types of eaters. The same goes with prices ranging between $20-$30 per person. Bill splitting is not available.
