Warm Winter Wonder: Hot Cross Bun Puddings Recipe Review

Canberra is already cooling down this year and residents are in need of dessert that can warm them up this winter. For the people taking full advantage of the discounted Easter items, Hot Cross Bun Puddings  just might be the answer.

Equipment/Utensils needed: Microwave, two measuring jugs, whisk, four microwave safe dishes, butter knife, cutting board, spoons and plastic wrap to cover.

Cost: $18.15 (I already had the vanilla essence) can make six puddings.

Difficulty: It was a pretty simple and straightforward recipe to follow. However, I used small ramekins and I had to squish in the hot cross buns in Step 2. I had not seen such a bad fit since the inception of Rove McManus and Sam’s Frost’s radio show.

I did not wrap the plastic far enough under the dish, so let’s just say it made a huge mess in the microwave. Similar to Oscars Best Picture announcement level of mess. Only Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway did not appear, not even Kanye West was stepping up to the mic.

Taste: Despite all the mess I made, the pudding was really good. It was a chocolate and raspberry swirl of goodness. Not to mention the delicious cream that melted on top of the warm pudding. The combinations combine in your mouth and give you a hit of each flavour. The chocolate could be a little rich at times but the cream helped counteract this problem.

Overall: This is a perfect warm and decadent Easter treat for any Canberra resident already feeling the cold. The recipe was straightforward and easy to follow and you can just pop the dish in the microwave. The process can be pretty messy though because of the cocoa powder, icing sugar and the microwave debacle. Overall the recipe is worth trying as it brings something different and delicious this winter.
