Sydney's Bad Friday 2018

Sydney festival-goers wishing to make the most of Good Friday were treated to a day of celebrating local food and music at the Marrickville Bad Friday Festival. Those lucky enough to get a ticket for the sold-out event were also promised a huge show from the festival’s unannounced ‘Secret Headliner’ – one which definitely did not disappoint.

Now in its ninth year, Bad Friday offered a massive line-up with Brisbane’s favourite five-piece The Belligerents made the trip to party alongside local Sydney legends Boo Seeka. Up-and-coming Triple J Unearthed punk rockers, Pist Idiots also made an appearence

Local food and beverages were in endless supply, with Newtown’s favourite Mary’s flipping out red-hot burgers all day, which were accompanied by an abundance of beverages provided by Young Henry’s Brewery. Such endless supply coincided with reasonable prices too – charging much less than the average festival food prices, on top of a measly $40 ticket. The event was passionate about showcasing local artists, rather than parting punters from their cash.

On top of the excellent food and music on offer, the biggest and baddest part of all was by far the performance of the ‘Secret Headliner’. Entirely unannounced until they came on stage, Sydney celebrities Sticky Fingers were welcomed by a thunderous roar of applause.

The surprise performance was a first for Sticky Finger’s, following their 12-month hiatus – and rather fittingly in fact, as the band played at the very first Bad Friday Festival. While thanking fans for all their support over the last 12-months, Sticky Fingers belted out a fifty-minute performance to close the Bad Friday festival, performing new songs and promising there was much more to come. Fan favourites Rum Rage and Outcast at Last also went down well with the huge crowd, all packed into Marrickville’s Railway Parade.

Promising to be back for a tenth-year running, Sydney’s 2019 Bad Friday Festival is surely one to attend to make the most of the Easter long-weekend, and to celebrate the great local acts Sydney’s inner-west has to offer.
With Bad Friday 2018 being a huge success, its 10th anniversary can only be bigger and badder than ever…
