Vance Joy “Nation of Two” Album Review
The Australian acoustic himself Vance Joy has released his second album “Nation of Two”. This album has been a long time coming, four years to be exact. Vance explains that the title of this album “reminds him of how your world begins and ends whenever you’re with that one person”. In this soundtrack, Joy produces an emotional and deep thought journey that everyone can experience while singing about one lucky person.
“Write it on a piece of paper, honey. Put it in my coat before I go, hidden in a place you know I’ll find it, oh later when I’m sitting all alone”.
Song number one, Call Me If You Need Me, sets the theme of the album. It’s a standard Vance Joy acoustic track that begins with a soft guitar rhythm as Joy sings “I love you in the morning when the blood runs to your cheeks”. Song number two, Lay It On Me, was his first single to be released from the album last July, which saw the song hit the top of the charts. Vance sings about the highs and lows of falling in love through a gracious tone. The lyrics illustrate love and discovery and you can’t help but sing along to it. The main instrument in all of Joy’s song is an acoustic guitar, but that doesn’t mean all of his songs are chilled and soft toned.
“She felt like resting her head, My shoulder was the perfect height, We fit so right, so what’s goin’ on?”.
Saturday Sun is my personal favourite from his new album. The song starts off with him playing his ukulele and his voice. It jumps straight to the course, which creates a fun and bright mood for the audience that is listening to it. This song is definitely some audience call and response material, which will be great for Joy’s upcoming tour and festival dates.
Nation of Two holds a strong theme of love and passion. Every song from his soundtrack is genuine and has a catchy song that all ages of men and women can enjoy and have a boogie too. The music that he has produced in his album creates a happy tone and puts you in a JOYful mood…
This year we will see Vance come to Australia for his tour with special guests Cub Sport and Didirri. If you haven’t listened to the album, make sure you make time do so, because it is defiantly an album to remember.
