UC Press Club Industry Tour 2018
The University of Canberra Press Club recently undertook their biggest event of the year with their annual Industry Tour. This year’s Press Club Industry Tour was held in Melbourne and ran from the 15th-18th of April.
Eleven students from the University of Canberra and one from the Australian National University, got to not only explore the city of Melbourne, but have an insiders view of some of the nations most renowned newsrooms.
The Industry Tour works primarily as a networking opportunity, but is also a means of meeting like-minded students and getting hands-on experience within the journalism industry. Last year the event won the award for the best off campus event at the University of Canberra.
UC student, Lewis Haskew, was one of the participants on the tour and said he found the tour experience really good.
“We covered a lot of different mediums, a lot of different platforms and I think we’ve gained some good insights and some good contacts,” he said.
President of the Press Club, Alyssia Tennant said that this years’ tour was really popular, and there were a lot of expressions of interest.
“I think [the Industry Tour] was really successful this year, everyone seemed to enjoy it and we got a lot out of it,” she said.
The Press Club alternates between Sydney and Melbourne each year for their Industry Tour and is usually only held annually, but a second tour may be on the cards this year following this recent tours’ success and popularity.
