For anyone that loves hip-hop and has not listened to Kwame you are truly missing out. Kwame produces all of his music and writes his own lyrics, he likes to “bring something different, flavour, spice… I’m that extra spice in the soup.” Kwame brings styles from his role models such as Kanye West and Chance the Rapper to inspire his own style.

Kwame opens the EP with “NO TIME” where he raps about his love life and the pressure that comes with it. With a jazz and soulful inspired hip hop beat, the track sets the stage for the rest of the EP. The second song “WOW” was one of the best hits of the year and has racked up over 2.5 million streams on Spotify. The head banging beat mixed with hard-hitting lyrics such as the main chorus line “Kwame going stupid packing up the place WOW” had everyone talking. He says “I knew I had to go in on the beat with bars, like I had to really attack this and rap.”

The third track “WHO DAT” features Sydney newcomer Phil Fresh who provides some much heavier and slower lyrics mixed with Kwame’s fast-paced bars. My personal favourite track “COFFEE” features another newcomer Mel Bailey who gives an expressive verse allowing the song to embody Kwame’s love life. The two share a conversation mid-track which acts as a turning point in Kwame’s story.

The final two tracks “CHANGE” and “FREEWAY” finish off the EP by exploring Kwame’s growth and acceptance with a conclusion to all of his troubles. Overall, the EP showed why Kwame is one of the biggest up and coming talents from Australia.

Since the release of the EP Kwame’s popularity has grown, and his career has developed further with the release of his new single “CLOUDS.” and the announcement that he will be touring with Peking Duk during 2019.

Tour dates can be found here.
