A day out in Gold Creek

Gold Creek Villiage, located just off of the Barton Highway, is home to a vast array of premium tourist attractions and unique businesses. The Dinosaur Museum, Cockington Green Gardens, Canberra Walk-in Aviary and the Canberra Reptile Zoo are some of these attractions that everyone needs to experience at least once in their lifetime.

The Dinosaur Museum

Established in 1993, the Dinosaur Museum holds the largest display of prehistoric and dinosaur fossil material in all of Australia. With skulls, skeletons, full-sized modelled dinosaurs and even robotic moving dinosaurs. They also have hands-on fossils that you can hold and handle to see what they feel like. It’s an amazing experience to be able to be that close to all that history. It’s also a pretty fun way to learn some things on top of seeing all the dinosaurs. On top of all these exhibits and fossils, they even have a gift shop where you can pick up a dinosaur of your own.

The Dinosaur Museum is a place for anyone and everyone to experience the past and escape into it, letting you embrace your inner kid because let’s be real, who doesn’t like dinosaurs.

Cockington Green Gardens

Established in 1979, Cockington Green is one of, if not the oldest attraction to make its home at Gold Creek. If you’re looking for somewhere to relax and look at something that is aesthetically pleasing then Cockington Green is the place for you.  The garden is home to a multitude of different hand sculpted miniature figures and buildings from around the world. Seeing all the colours work together and create a vibrant little world is something that isn’t done easily.

The garden alone can provide an experience for anyone who goes, but Cockington Green offers much more than just that. With miniature steam train rides, a picnic area and playground, multiple cafes and the famed 34 room Waverley dollhouse. There is more than enough options to occupy yourself with when you visit the gardens.

Cockington Green Gardens turns 38 today! The Sarah Family would like to thank our wonderful team, industry partners and…

Canberra Walk-in Aviary

1000 square metres and home to approximately 500 birds, the Walk-in Aviary lets you escape into a world of colour and allows you to make some new winged friends along the way.

Once you’ve purchased your tickets you’re given a plate of food and tub of mealworms to try and get the birds to come up to you. Or if you’re too scared of that you can simply just observe.

While some of the birds are a little harder to coax out, most of them will come up to you and some will even land on you if they feel like it. The Aviary will guarantee some good memories and will provide countless opportunities to get some Instagram worthy photos.

The Canberra Reptile Zoo

Once you’ve had your fill of dinosaurs, gardens and birds you can head down to the Reptile Zoo to see some real-life dinosaurs. While it isn’t the biggest zoo in the world, the Canberra Reptile Zoo is home to 50 different species of reptile. Not only can you come and look at the assortment of reptiles that the zoo has to offer, but you can get up close and personal with them as well. You can hold pythons, lizards and skinks and the handlers can answer any question you have about them.

If you are thinking of having a reptile of your own the zoo itself also provides all your reptile keeping needs as it is also a shop.

While these hotspots are a great way to spend your day, Gold Creek is also home to multiple cafes and places to get food. It is a place where students or families can go out and enjoy a day that doesn’t cost an absurd amount of money. Not only would you be experiencing new things and creating new memories, but you would also be supporting these businesses. With each ticket bought or donation made these businesses can maintain their livelihood and even grow to allow themselves to bring more ways to bring joy to those who choose to visit.
