Behind the scenes of the world’s fastest motorsport – F1: Drive to Survive review
Have you ever wondered what happens behind the scenes of running a multi-million dollar business? The Netflix Original series Formula 1: Drive to Survive gives the audience a look into the political and business side of one of the most expensive and fast-paced sports in the world.
There’s action in every episode with teams and drivers putting their all on the line to achieve that illustrious Formula 1 World Championship.
The series also follows up-and-coming star Charles Leclerc, as he deals with the death of his godfather, Marussia F1 driver Jules Bianchi, after a mid-season crash.
Formula One teams Haas, McLaren, Williams, and Force India (now Racing Point), who are all considered to be lower-tier teams, document their season fighting for pivotal points to keep their sponsors happy, which is vital to survival in the sport. With good results during the season, more funding from sponsors can be granted, creating a faster and more competitive race car.
Season two of the series follows on from series one, as we follow Ricciardo, Sainz and Leclerc into their new teams.
Haas also plays a part in the series, as they go through the rollercoaster of losing their title sponsor due to poor results.
Williams continues to struggle with results and car problems as they did in season one, with their car simply not up to scratch and causing their drivers to become frustrated.
New in season two, the audience watches on as powerhouse teams Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari come into the show. Their segments show how running a high-class operation, with in-depth access to decision making that could be the difference between winning the championship or not.
This series is drama filled and excitement packed, with fast paced racing and millions of dollars on the line, you’ll ride an emotional rollercoaster from episode to episode.
For those new to Formula 1, this series is also a great way to get into the sport. Whether it is Haas battling for points or Mercedes fighting for the championship, viewers will get a new appreciation of the pressures the Team Principal has in running their respective teams.
With COVID-19 impacting the first few months of the 2020 season, Netflix has yet to announce a season 3. Hopefully, the action-filled series will continue as the first two seasons are a fantastic watch and will have you on the edge of your seat for hours.
With drama, fast cars and incredible storylines, Formula 1: Drive to Survive is a mind-blowing must watch series.
