Newcomer To The Marvel Cinematic Universe? Here’s 5 Movies To Help You Find Your Way

If you’ve been living under a rock for the last 15 years and are just entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we’re here to help.

In a franchise that has spanned over a decade, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is one of the most followed series of our time.

From hundred-year-old soldiers to the Greek ancient god of thunder, to a talking raccoon. The MCU has become one of the most captivating stories in the last decade.

But for the rare person who hasn’t seen any of the movies and wants to find their way in the Marvel Universe, these are the 5 movies you simply must watch.

We’ll work in a chronological order. Let’s start with the first release, then watch a few of the important ones and you can fill the holes later.

Warning! Some plot spoilers below if you choose to read on.

1. Iron Man (2008)

Not many actors land a role so suited to them, to the point where nobody else could imagine another person playing that character ever again. Robert Downey Jr. has achieved just that.

The military weapons supplier Rony Stark, CEO of Stark Industries, realises the damage his weapons have caused not only to the enemies but also how they have been used on innocent people.

It is one of the first superhero movies of its time to not be your typical ‘superhero film’, as the audience watches the development of a human as he comes to realise the responsibilities on his shoulders, using the knowledge he has.

Far from being the perfect human, Tony Stark embarks on his journey to becoming the hero he is today in the Marvel Universe.

2. The Avengers (2012)

The first of many cross-over movies in this series to feature 6 of the main heroes from this ever-growing universe.

With Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, Thor, Hawk-eye, and Black Widow all teaming up for the first time, not everything went to plan straight away.

It was the introduction to a universe that was beyond Earth, although we see this in Thor’s movie, we see the greater enemies that Earth will be up against.

As corny as the humour gets at times, it is undeniably amazing to see the chemistry between all of the MCU’s biggest heroes coming together.

3. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

In this film, we explore more of the vast worlds the MCU has to offer.

With the introduction of the purple infinity stone (the power stone), we have a more in-depth sight into why all these stones have become relevant within the MCU.

Main characters Peter Quill, Garmora, Rocket, and Groot find themselves fighting for the stone. As a result, they are all arrested and sent to a prison where they meet Drax.

By helping each other escape, despite the extreme complexities of each of their characteristics, they find a way to work together.

Ignoring the fact that the main villain is a forgettable character, the growth shown in these characters throughout this film makes it quite an enjoyable watch.

4. Captain America: Civil War (2016)

This had to be one of the first Marvel movies that split the crowd’s opinion on who the good guys actually were.

Steve Rogers and a portion of the Avengers are on the quest of fighting for their freedom and defending his best mate who had been brainwashed, James ‘Bucky’ Barnes, into doing terrible things.

Tony Stark and another portion of the group believed they should all be held accountable and need limitations with what they can all do.

This disagreement leads to one of the biggest fights in the MCU of all time, and becomes quite an emotional rollercoaster for the audience, as we see them all fall apart.

5. Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

The beginning of the end in Thanos’ master plan for world peace. A man that believes the world’s overpopulation is what is causing its own end.

With all 6 of the infinity stones, he will possess the power to do what he believes is bringing balance to the universe.

But with Earth’s heroes finding it within themselves to fight for their planet once more, the only question is, are they enough to stop what is heading their way?
