Every Australian summer holidays, my family and I love to go skiing in Canada because of the fantastic snow and the big, wide runs.

Canada is home to some of the best snow in the world and is a common destination for Australian skiers and snowboarders in the summer holidays. However, due to the size of the country and the variety of ski mountains, people find it hard to decide where they want to ski in Canada. Because of this, I have decided to devise a list of what I believe to be the go-to top five places to ski and snowboard in Canada.

1. Whistler Blackcomb, British Columbia

Whistler Blackcomb is easily the best ski mountain and resort to go to in Canada. The best part about skiing here is that the resort is home to two ski mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb. This allows for people to ski on a lot more runs and gives them a choice of which mountain they want to ski on, or they can switch between the two.

The location is also ideal for travellers, either local or abroad, as it is easily accessible from Vancouver airport, with the travel time being just under two hours by car or bus.

The main thing that sets Whistler Blackcomb apart is the snow quality as well as the range of runs and how long the runs are. This is why it is number one on the list.

The only real problem with Whistler is the large amount of people that go there to ski or snowboard. It is the most popular destination in Canada and one of the most popular places to ski in the world. Therefore, the lines for the chair lifts are long and there are a ton of people on the mountains.

2. Mont Tremblant, Quebec

Mont Tremblant is an awesome place to go for snowsports. It is the only main place to ski or snowboard on the eastern side of the country. So, it would be a great choice for those travelling to the eastern side of Canada or those who live around the Montreal area or nearby. Much like most of the ski resorts in Canada, the travel time to get to the mountain isn’t massive; Mont Tremblant, in fact, is only an hour from Montreal airport by car. It can be difficult to get on the slopes on the weekends as there are a lot of people that go for a weekend trip. The great thing about Mont Tremblant is that there is a variety of runs to suit those who are beginners right through to the experts.

3. Big White, British Columbia

Big White is ranked at number three because it is the best family ski resort in Canada. It can get crowded at times but Big White is home to great snow, in fact, the resort is known for its powdery snow and its awesome ‘night-skiing’ program. In addition to this, the resort is the biggest ski-in, ski-out village in Canada. Big White is great, however, the reason it isn’t ranked as high as Whistler is because it can get crowded and the visibility at the top of the mountain for skiers and snowboarders is not very good. However, it is a great place to take your family and has runs suitable for all ages and abilities. It is only a one hour drive from Kelowna airport with transport to and from the airport available.

4. Lake Louise, British Columbia

Another great place to ski in Canada is in Lake Louise. The main problem with Lake Louise is that it is an expensive place to go ski. However, it has awesome surroundings and scenery and has the longest ski seasons in Canada, of six months. It is a longer drive than some of the other places, being two hours from Calgary airport. It is the largest of three ski resorts in the Banff area and has great ski terrain. A great place to go to if you want a long ski season and are near the Banff area.

5. Revelstoke, British Columbia

Revelstoke is another great ski resort in Canada. Revelstoke is one of the best places to ski or snowboard in Canada due to its great, powdery snow and steep runs.

You shouldn’t go there if you are starting out on the slopes, or you don’t have a lot of skiing or snowboarding experience. It is a less crowded place to ski as experts go there mostly and it is home to the biggest vertical drop in North America.

Lake Louise , is in Alberta , not British Columbia. Also you are completely forgetting Sunshine village Alberta, voted by USA today as one of the best ski resorts in North America. Also both are only a little over a hour from Calgary Alberta ,host city of the 1988 Winter Olympics.. Calgary Is Canada’s version of Denver,Colorado only larger. Alberta ski resorts are known for the longest ski seasons in Canada also, you don’t have to ski in the rain , that really sucks.
