FIFA 16 is one of the most disappointing versions of the popular soccer video game to be released on PlayStation 3.

The gameplay is realistic and enjoyable, as they were on titles previous, the career mode is exciting but the game lacks innovation.

It isn’t as though FIFA 16 lacks any additions, but it has continued on the series course of rinse and repeat.

The opportunity to play women’s football at an international level is a much welcomed addition to the game. Rather than just adding women players to the game, developers have created a different game altogether with different movement and control to replicate women’s football.

Although a good addition, it has no presence within FIFA 16’s most popular game modes, Career Mode and Ultimate Team. Giving players the chance to manage women’s international teams within Career Mode would be a step forward for the franchise.

The gameplay is now more realistic than ever. Whereas in previous versions of the game, it was quite easy to pass the ball around, with goalkeeper kicks often finding their target. FIFA 16 makes that just a little more difficult, giving defenders a chance.

Free kicks are now a genuine attacking option. Previously free-kicks carried little attacking threat but in FIFA 16 they are a genuine scoring opportunity.

However, two of the biggest features of the newest FIFA game aren’t available on PS3. Pre-season tournaments and player training were the big developments for the 2016 version of the game but those changes aren’t accessible on PS3.

Smaller changes to the game also aren’t available on PS3 with unlimited subs for friendly matches, and longer player loan periods only available on newer consoles.

By the time FIFA 17 is released, it will have been three years since the PlayStation 4 was first available to buy. Many new games aren’t being produced for PS3 and most of the changes are only made for newer consoles.

It is likely FIFA 16 will be last game of the FIFA franchise to be made for PS3.

Overall FIFA 16 is enjoyable but not a significant improvement on previous editions. Apart from the updated rosters, there is little reason to buy the game on PlayStation 3.
