AFL early season review: Part 2

The second inclusion of the AFL season review to date.

Collingwood:

The Magpies have had a relatively easy draw so far beating the lowly ranked Lions and StKilda relatively convincingly. They were however totally over run by a ramped Crows side in round two and there are worrying signs for the competitions most supported side. They look to seriously lack midfield depth with Steele Sidebottom to miss another month with a broken thumb and skipper Scott Pendlebury nursing a sore ankle.

Grade after round three: B

Greater Western Sydney:

The Giants have constantly built their list over their first three seasons in the competition. The club now looks very settled in comparison to previous years and is showing a new found level of depth with good players missing games. They have not set the world on fire in the opening three rounds, however they did what they needed to do against the Demons and Saints and were far from embarrassed against cross town rivals the Swans on Saturday. Young trio Dylan Shiel, Steve Coniglio and Adam Trealor could be the three most exciting young midfielders in the game.

Melbourne:

The Demons started the season with a win for the first time in ten years. Their round one clash against the Suns was labelled an Easter miracle with the sides new seasoned recruits perfectly complementing the strong young stars picked up in the draft. The Demons worried fans in round two when they allowed the Giants to score 14 unanswered goals to over run them emphatically, however they responded positively last week putting in a good showing against the crows In Adelaide.

Richmond:

It is very hard to get and sort of a gauge on the Tigers after three rounds, they are another team who rates themselves as a top eight side in 2015. However they find themselves with 2 wins and 1 loss after three rounds. They beat the Blues and Lions as they need to if they are a serious top eight side, however they were beaten badly by the bulldogs in round two at the MCG. If the Tigers really are a top eight side they cannot continue losing games like that.

Grade after round three: B

Western Bulldogs:

Would be comfortably the most exciting team so far in 2015, the Bulldogs are full of youth and dash. The Dogs starts the season in sensational with two wins against the Eagles and Tigers. However they were brought suddenly back to earth last weekend when they encountered the Hawks in Tasmania. Although they were steam rolled by the reigning premiers Dogs fans should still be very happy with their teams start to the year, and even more excited for the future with 20 year olds Marcus Bontempelli and Jack McRae already dominating the competition.
