“It Follows” Movie Review
“It Follows” is a horror film directed by David Robert Mitchell, which was released in 2015 It brings horror film fanatics to the edge of their seat. It all starts with a girl who within two minutes of the film ends up dead. This is the perfect way of introducing our villain.
We then get introduced to our protagonist, a woman thats in her mid twenties indulging in her ‘normal’ life until Jay (Maika Monroe) sleeps with Hugh (Jake Weary). To her shock, she is then chloroformed and tied to a chair. In this act we get to know the villain. Hugh says that because they had sex, Jay now has been cursed by a ‘being’ that will keep on following until it kills her unless she passes it on. If the person you have passed it onto gets killed then the ‘being’ will come for you once more until you pass it on again. I like to think it as a type of STI. Though we never see ‘it’, the way the film has been shot frightens the living daylights out of you! There are some classic jump scares, but with any horror film, its sometime hard not to know when you’re going to get spooked.
Though some of the acting is a bit dull and annoying to watch, ‘It Follows’ was one of the best horror films to be released in 2015. The beautiful captured shots and the well constructed story to go along with it, is the perfect recipe for a lover or non lover of horror to enjoy. A must watch.
