Best Animal at Canberra's National Zoo & Aquarium

How can you select a favourite animal – and is it possible to find it at the zoo? For most people in Canberra, selecting a favourite animal is often a heated debate between a dog and a cat, unless you have been to the National Zoo & Aquarium. In that case, your favourite animal is going to be the Sun Bear, and this review will explain why.

Meet the meerkats: they’re the most likely to want to meet you! On a warm day, if nothing else is happening, you can be assured there will be live action in their manor. The ringleader encourages the rest to take flight and fling on to any meerkats unfortunately not paying attention. After awhile their beady little eyes won’t stop inspecting you, warranting them as a ‘threat not a pet.’

Despite its height, you could nearly walk straight past the uninterested giraffes. Feeding off energy, the dingoes have no mercy as they attack the rats keepers throw into their cage. You will be shocked at their viciousness, and then realise that they’re never going to be your friend. As a previous incident shows, you don’t want to take any babies near them either. Perhaps a friendlier Australian animal to stop past is the kangaroo. However chances are you’ve seen them before, nearly running one over on your way to work.

So that comes down to the best animal that you can visit at the local zoo: the humble and relaxed Malayan Sun Bear. Its yellow patch on its black velvet coat is where its name has come from, not because it spends most the day swaying in the sun. The unique colour patch makes it stand out from other bear species, making it look more like a ‘pet than a threat.’ Whilst it isn’t an Australian animal, its rarity makes it as delicate as its movements. It also has a large tongue that is quite comical.
If none of this takes your fancy, you could always go back to instagramming cats. From talking to an animal lover, it is evident that cat lovers would never visit a zoo to visit a tiger, when they have their favourite animal available in the backyard. Admitted cat lover, Rose Drover, admitted there is a certain quality that makes cats special. People who make the ‘crazy lady living in a house with 27 cats joke’ would not understand. “I really think it’s just love and sharing parts of my life. The cat meme obsession is purely because I relate so well” said Miss Drover. However if you are worried about your cat obsession, and don’t want to end up in buy cipro captivity yourself, you could open your mind to consider visiting the majestic Sun Bear. And catch some sun whilst you’re at it…
