Top 5 Videos This Week

As a university student I’m constantly looking for additional ways to procrastinate on the internet during times when I’m supposed to be doing work.

One procrastination technique that I spend a surprisingly large amount of time doing the week while procrastinating is watching videos.

Top five videos for this week.

1. Dragonball Z Stop motion

I loved this show in my early teens and to

be perfectly honest I still have a soft spot. The video created by a 30 year Taiwanese guy going by the pseudonym Counter656 depicts a battle between central characters Piccolo and Trunks…except the fighters are action figures. It’s amazing to think that someone could capture and recreate all the elements that made a DBZ battle awesome. (while also cutting out all that ridiculous screaming which seemed to take up a fair chunk of the later episodes) One can only imagine how much work went into this.

2.College Humor presents: Bioshock Under the Sea Parody

Bioshock was a game released in 2008. It was a smash hit mainly due to its riveting plot, creepy atmosphere and immersive game play. Anyway, the original Bioshock was set in an underwater city called Rapture which was created during the 1950s by eccentric magnate (and obvious Ayn Rand fan) Andrew Ryan who wished to create utopia free of Government control.  The beauty of this video is that it cleverly takes the dark subject matter from a very mature game and mashes together with the classic light hearted ditty “Under the Sea” from the classic Disney interpretation of the Little Mermaid. You probably won’t appreciate this parody if you haven’t played Bioshock before, but if you have you’ll love it.

3.Harrison Craig sings the Vow

Ok, let me start off my saying I usually don’t watch shows like the Voice, they don’t interest me in the slightest. Anyway, I was talking to my room mate recently and he told me about this teenager with a speech impediment who was supposedly close to being the perfect singer. I was bit sceptical and I wasn’t really keen on watching the clip. Anyway I humoured my roomie and watched and I have to say I was actually amazed by this kid’s voice. It’s likely that you’ve probably seen this clip because I spread around the internet  but if you haven’t, check it out.

4. Hey Arnold: The Movie – Official Trailer

This video is actually about a year old but I only became aware it last week when a friend of mine posted it on my Facebook wall. Hey Arnold was a Nickoledeon cartoon that was really popular around the time I started school in 1996. It was one of the staple television shows from my primary school years. Anyway this video is a trailer for a movie that depicts a time when characters like Arnold, his mate Gerald and the angry girl who loves him, Helga grow up. It’s worth a watch mainly because the makers have gone to such an effort to recreate the costumes for the show, plus it’s seriously well made with some great references to the show.

 5.Two sides to every story

I can’t say anything about this video without ruining the end of it. Just watch it through to the end. If you get the joke you’ll love it.
