'So Help Me God' Preview – Kanye doing it his way

Kanye’s got an album coming out and he wants everyone to know about it; he has been bold and somewhat cryptic in the way he’s gone about promoting his upcoming seventh studio album ‘So Help Me God’.
West has been debuting songs of his album at different events around the globe whilst doing several long interviews, saying a lot whilst saying little, and guest lecturing at Oxford.
Kanye gave us our first official glance at his new work in January with the release of ‘Only One’ and since then the information has been drip-fed; several songs have now been released but West has withheld a tracklist or a release date.
‘Ye told Power 105.1’s ‘The Breakfast Club’ “100% release dates is played out, so the surprise is gonna be a surprise. There goes the surprise.”
We currently know ‘All Day’, ‘Wolves’ and ‘Only One’ will all appear. Of the other tracks we’ve heard since 2013’s ‘Yeezus’ that Genius.com believe to be on the album, there is ‘Heartache’, originally heard as a surprise second track in the ‘All Day’ video, and ‘God Level’, a Hudson Mohawke produced track first heard May 2014 in an Adidas commercial.

What we know

The Cover
The cover has been all but confirmed as the image tweeted on the 1st of March by West below. Reddit managed to get to the bottom of the esoteric image, revealing it to be a 13th Century monastic symbol for the Virgin Mary.

The Style
Kanye has told us he’s adopted a different attitude when compared to the sound of ‘Yeezus’: “my last album was a protest to music… But this album’s just embracing the music, embracing joy and being of service to the people”.
He told the breakfast club his new album would include “bars, songs, cookout music that just feels good.” West is following his career-long tendency of approaching each album with the intention of switching the style up, something he’s been doing since 50 Cent told him to.
‘Wolves’ is the album’s first track
West debuted ‘Wolves’ at the fashion show launch for his Adidas collaboration back in February and then performed live for Saturday Night Live’s 40th Anniversary Special. The song has a melancholic sound that is reminiscent of West’s 2008 album ‘808’s and Heartbreaks’, featuring solemn lyrics, a slow beat, a minimalist, atmospheric sound and lots of auto-tune.

‘All Day’
All Day debuted in style at the BRIT awards, when Kanye was accompanied on stage by a few of the song’s 17 collaborators and a bunch of his homies dressed in all black manning flamethrowers.
Kanye’s rapping on this track harder and faster than ever over a schizophrenic trap beat that both marks Yeezy’s triumphant return to the club banger foray whilst simultaneously capturing the aggressive, jarring tones of ‘Yeezus’.  What’s also notable is Paul McCartney’s acoustic guitar playing, whistling and auto-tuned singing of the last verse.

‘Only One’
This track features Paul McCartney playing a soft electric organ, and it features Kanye singing softly in auto-tune.  A press release described the track as “McCartney improvising on the keyboards and Kanye vocally sketching and shaping ideas in a stream-of-consciousness riff”.
The lyrics take the perspective of Kanye’s late mother Donda West and his Grandmother.

Madonna collaboration
Madonna told Complex that she wrote a song with West that will appear on ‘So Help Me God’, but nothing more has been revealed.
Kendrick Lamar
It is expected ‘Ye will collaborate with Compton-born rapper Kendrick Lamar. Some snippets of a Kendrick Lamar verse on ‘All Day’ popped up online last week; Kendrick is listed as one of the studio version’s 17 collaborators. Kendrick told Los Angeles’ 106 that he had spent time working with ‘Ye but modestly said “he’s still working. So, you never know”.
Well, what we do know is that these two rappers have a great deal of respect for each other and fans would love to see more collaboration happening between the two.
Tidal Exclusivity/Illuminati

Latin Post reported that ‘So Help Me God’ will be available on Spotify potentially “several months” after the album is released exclusively for streaming on Jay Z’s rival service Tidal.
‘Midas Touch’
New Kanye music found its way online on the 10th of April in the form of ‘Midas Touch’. It is unknown if the track will appear on ‘So Help Me God’. Rapdose reported that the track is of unknown origin and is said to be a scrapped recording for Rihanna‘s forthcoming album.
With what we’ve heard and what we’ve been told, we have a sense of what to expect with the new album. It will be interesting to see how ‘All Day’ fits in amongst it all, as it doesn’t gel with the vibe of what we’ve otherwise been hearing. ‘Ye has undoubtedly kept some cards up his sleeve and it will be fascinating to see what exactly he tries to do and how he pieces this one together.
